Session Overview This session will review a number of Housing Programs that have various Energy and Environmental goals. Programs such as R2000, EnergySTAR for New Homes, LEED for Homes, etc will be compared with respect to their required energy performance and requirements for other environmental features.
One of the North American (USGBC) pilot LEED for Homes project, the ecoFourPlex in Winnipeg will be reviewed. An overview of the current CAGBC LEED Canada for Homes program and certification requirements will be presented along with a review of the recent Habitat for Humanity LEED for Homes projects.

John Hockman has been designing energy-efficient housing, energy retrofits and advanced mechanical systems for over 35 years, including over 75 super energy efficient homes and winning the 2000 Housing Energy Efficiency Award for a Winnipeg home. He was on the design team for both the Mountain Equipment store in Winnipeg, the 3rd retail building in Canada to achieve LEED Gold Certification and for a Carbon Neutral demonstration home under CMHC’s Equilibrium program in Canada. He sits as a member of the Part 9 Standing Committee of the National Building Code of Canada.
Gio Robson is President of prairieHOUSE Performance Inc., a company that provides residential building science, home performance, and green building consulting and services in Manitoba. For 10 years Gio and the prairieHOUSE Performance Inc. team have supported and/or delivered the federal government Energuide for Houses, ecoEnergy, and R2000 programs, Manitoba Hydro’s Power Smart New Home, Home Insulation, and Lower Income Energy Efficiency Programs, and the Canada Green Building Council’s LEED Canada for Homes program.
