Geoff Mikolayenko
Administrator of Commercial Inspections, City of Winnipeg
Geoff Mikolayenko, Eng. L., C.E.T. is currently the City of Winnipeg’s Administrator of Commercial Inspections. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist and graduated in 1993 with a Diploma in Structural Engineering Technology from Red River College. In 2018 he achieved his Specified Scope of Practice Licence from Engineering Geoscientists of Manitoba as a licensed practitioner. He has 26 years of experience within the industry.
Starting as a roof truss designer in 1994, he joined the City of Winnipeg organization in 2000 as the Residential Building Plan Examiner. In 2004 he moved to the Commerical Plan Examination Branch where he held several postions, including Senior Building Plan Examiner and was the acting Commercial Plan Examination Administrator between 2013 and 2015.
In the summer of 2018 Geoff took on his present role as Commercial Inspections Administrator. He is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of the Commercial Building Inspection services, encompassing construction methods, bylaw compliance, and correction of dangerous conditions involving electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building, fire and life safety systems.
Dr. John Frye
Dr. Frye spent 26 years with the City of Winnipeg Building Inspections Department, retiring in 2000. Dr. Frye held several senior positions in the Building Inspection Department, including Manager of the Plan Examination Branch and Assistant to the Manager of Building Inspections.
During his career with the City of Winnipeg, Dr. Frye served on a number of provincial, national and international professional committees related to building codes and standards and continues to today. In 1992, he received an Adjunct Professor appointment from the University of Manitoba Department of Civil Engineering. In 2000, he became an Engineer-In-Residence and continues to teach in the Department of Civil Engineering.
Dr. Frye has published papers related to the application of expert systems for the fire protection requirements of the National Building Code of Canada. He has lectured extensively to architects, professional engineers, interior designers and building technologists on building codes, particularly in the area of fire protection.
