Roof Assemblies - Problems in the Field

This presentation is intended to highlight challenges in creating a roof system that works for the life-cycle it was designed for. The presentation will highlight details that are typical on many projects however seem to have a number issues when being installed or show up later after installation. With the advantage of being able to work with multiple designers, general contractors and roofers, solutions to some of these issues have been identified.  The presentation will also include do’s and don'ts of installation and design to achieve the desired result. 

Mr. Jonathon Braun

Mr. Braun has over 17 years experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance in the construction industry and 7 years experience in field installation of roofing and waterproofing systems. Mr. Braun has provided roof design and consulting services for numerous commercial and industrial clients on project types which include health care facilities, institutions, schools, churches, commercial/industrial facilities, process facilities, office buildings, hotels/resorts and residential/condo-type facilities. The range of involvement has been from design review and inspection and testing on site to diagnostic evaluations of existing building regarding the functioning of the envelope system.  Mr. Braun is currently a member of MBEC, the Roofing Consultants Institute (RCI) and a Level I Thermographer.

Mr. Doug Sutherland

Mr. Sutherland has over 29 years experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance in the construction industry, including over 10 years in building envelope QA/QC, with extensive experience in field inspection, project management, test protocol development, and material testing.  Mr. Sutherland is a member and past president of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and a member of the Roofing Consultants Institute (RCI).
